The BBGS are extremely honoured to announce our judge for the Royal Three Counties Show 2026 — Mr Johan Strauss.
Johan qualified as a Boer goat judge in 2005. Since then, he has judged six World Boer Goat Championships in South Africa, each featuring over 1,000 goats, along with numerous regional shows. His international judging experience includes the Sydney Royal Show (2008 and 2015), the New South Wales State Show (2013), the New Zealand National Championship in Christchurch, the Three Counties Show (2016), the Botswana Ghanzi National Show, and three Namibian National Championships.
Johan’s family farm is located near Philippolis in the Free State, South Africa. Their semi-arid Karoo farmland provides excellent natural grazing for Stud Merino sheep—an ideal dual-purpose breed known for its fine wool and highly sought-after Karoo mutton. Situated alongside the Orange River, the largest river in South Africa, the farm also produces irrigated crops, forming the second major component of their enterprise. Commercial beef cattle and a small band of Thoroughbred racehorse broodmares complete their diverse farming operation.
With Johan’s extensive experience and depth of knowledge, the 2026 Royal Three Counties Show promises to be an event not to be missed.
